Generalized Mathematical Model of the Grain Drying Process

Convective cereal grain drying is an energy-intensive process. Mathematical models are applied to analyze and optimize processes in different types of dryers stages improve final quality reduce energy consumption. The aim the present study was develop a generalized mathematical model process that accounts for all stages, including loading unloading unprocessed grain, drying, cooling dry grain. developed system algebraic equations, where calculated coefficients determined by thermophysical diffusive properties dried validated batch wheat, canola, corn as well continuous flow wheat results were compared with published findings. relationships between consumption during time vs. air temperature at dryer inlet stream volume determined. Dryer capacity conditions specified manufacturers, capacity, considered drying. Continuous simulations conducted counter-flow, parallel-flow, cross-flow mode. Simulation indicate proposed correctly depicted both dryers.
